At JoshTech Agri Expert Farm – Kampala, Uganda, every morning begins with checking the brooder section and ensuring the young quail chicks are comfortable, warm, and well-fed.

Recently, we carried out our regular morning farm routine, which included:

- Cleaning the brooder  
- Maintaining proper heat levels  
- Ensuring the birds had access to fresh feed and clean water

Cleaning the Brooder Section 🧹🐥

The brooder is where young quail chicks grow during their first weeks of life.

Cleanliness in this area is extremely important because chicks are very delicate and can easily be affected by poor hygiene.

During the cleaning process we:

1️⃣ Removed old bedding material  
2️⃣ Replaced it with fresh bedding  
3️⃣ Washed the water containers  
4️⃣ Cleaned the feeding trays  
5️⃣ Added fresh feed and clean water  

Maintaining a clean brooder helps prevent diseases and ensures the chicks grow strong and healthy.

Maintaining the Brooder Heat 🔥

Young quail chicks require consistent warmth, especially during their early days.

At JoshTech Agri Expert Farm, we use controlled heat sources to maintain a suitable brooder temperature.

Proper brooder heat helps chicks:

✔ Stay active  
✔ Digest feed properly  
✔ Avoid cold stress  

Cold stress can reduce survival rates, so monitoring temperature is essential.

Farmers must always monitor chick behavior:

• If chicks move away from the heat source, the brooder may be too hot.  
• If chicks gather closely around the heat source, the brooder may be too cold.  

Observing the chicks helps farmers quickly adjust the temperature.

Feeding Young Quail Chicks 🌾

Another important step is preparing feed for the chicks.

Because young quails are very small, their feed sometimes needs to be blended into smaller particles so they can easily eat and digest it.

After attending to the chicks, we also cleaned the cages of the adult quails.

The litter removed from the cages is not wasted.

Instead, it is used as organic manure in our moringa garden, supporting sustainable farming practices.

After cleaning, the adult birds were provided with:
